Since a decade and a half, aristocratic elite lived in Iraq with unprecedented lofty life, while the ordinary citizen only got injustice and misery.

This view is seen by the Iraqi wittier and journalist Ali al-Talaqani in an article he worte on the demonstrations that are taking place in the country.

“It seems that this stratum utilized the national budgets of Iraq, which belonged to the ordinary citizen, to create a wealthy society endowed with special privileges by using the terminologies of religion, sectarianism, Baathism and Safavidism”, he pointed out.

The writer refers to the popular protests that covered mid and southern parts of the country, saying: “If these protest movement will be successful, its demands should be clear. The protesters should concentrate on social and masses’ investments in two important and strategic sectors”.

He elaborated that “Democracy, educational development and awareness of the dangers threatening the workers in these fields should be preserved”.

On the other had, he added that “every masses’ movement will expose its strength and weakness, thus the political entities will utilize these points to make the masses the scapegoat for all sins”.

According to the writer, “the governmental understanding for the protests and the popular rights is still superficial, thus imitating, consciously or not, the ideas of some governmental officials that neglected the social and economic reasons for the start of these protests in a manner abridging the main reasons for such movement”.

Al-Talaqani added that “the connection between the automatic and realistic entitlements and the pseudo-representation has become a commonplace, where many are rushing to meet the officials without any criticism or feasibility studies of such meetings, as if this official does not know the demands of the citizens or the existence of some departments that know these demands”.

On the treatment of the official of such events, the writer said: “The official realized that his existence has become illegitimate, following its decay after the elections”.

He pointed that the official realized that “there are no leadership for the demonstrations and the non-existent of political opposition put the citizen before two alternative, either suppression or neglecting the demands”

On the expected role of the Iraqi intellectual in the protests movement to continue its pace and permanence, the author said: “The intellectual did not have deep understanding, as well as the protests were not able to eradicate increasing poverty and backwardness, but, in most cases, achieved a sort of political polarizatrion and polishing the image of the official through pronouncing a very rude media statements and creating a state of mobilization of ideologies for the political blocs that continue voicing promises to anesthetize the masses with promises that could not be achieved at this stage”.

Nevertheless, Talaqani pointed that the protest movements produced groups of opportunists.

“The citizen is not that who follows the waves of others, thus the rights of the masses are lost and the gap the beneficial and the victim is increasing. Thus, the needs of the poor citizen cannot be achieved by demonstrating groups that pretended leadership, while they lacked the most basic elements to live the worries and concerns of the citizen”, Talaqani pointed out.

In reference to the speech of Karbala Friday speech, the writer pointed that the speech provided, for the first time, the disadvantages with such accuracy and provided clear-

cut, transparent and courageous solutions.

He added that the speech did not give the chance for Premier Haidar al-Ibadi but to

continue his march in combating the corruptors.

“The speech pinpointed all the shortcomings of the legislative and executive organs, as well as clearly supporting the demonstrators and put an end to the benefits of the parties and the personalities”, he added.

Talaqani concluded that “If these speeches continue with this daring pace, they will support the demonstrations and their peaceful movements that will lead to many changes”.
