As part of its ongoing dialogue series with leading professional institutions, a delegation from the Al-Naba’a Forum for Dialogue met with Engineer Muhammad Fadel Al-Nasrawi, Head of the Karbala Branch of the Iraqi Engineers Syndicate, who also serves as Director of the Karbala Water Directorate.

Engineer Al-Nasrawi emphasized “the urgent need for collaboration with other unions, organizations, and relevant institutions to empower Iraqi engineers and qualify them to lead the reconstruction efforts and assume a pioneering role.” He further highlighted “the importance of blending authenticity with modernity in construction projects to preserve Iraq’s architectural identity.”

In a notable statement, both parties stressed “the importance of keeping professional institutions neutral and free from political conflicts and partisan influence.” The meeting also included a review of the mechanisms through which the union’s departments operate and the roles they undertake.

For his part, Ali Al-Talaqani, President of the Al-Naba’a Forum for Dialogue, along with the Forum’s team, announced “plans to organize a series of joint workshops,” noting that “this meeting marks the beginning of a strategic partnership with the Syndicate.”

The delegation also pointed out “the importance of union work as an effective tool in shaping decision-making and empowering professionals to lead their sectors in a structured and professional manner, away from political polarization and external pressures.” They added that “unions are the true representatives of specialized professional groups, and if activated effectively, they can bring about a positive transformation in the structure of the profession nationwide.”

The delegation further explained that “the Al-Naba’a Forum for Dialogue is committed to strengthening the role of professional unions through the establishment of strategic partnerships with professional federations and by providing constructive dialogue platforms that enhance union performance and increase its effectiveness in influencing public and developmental policy-making.”

This meeting comes at a critical time when the country is in dire need of concerted efforts between technical institutions and community initiatives, as Iraqi engineers represent a vital pillar in the equation of sustainable development.
